Monday Musings - In the Hot Seat (Video Workshop)
I’m a bit late with this post today because I have been very productive. At 2pm I did my very first video workshop and it went really, really well. My customer was a woman who normally comes to my West End Centre workshops. She has been very loyal and always enjoyed our sessions, so it was a shame when recently I had to make the decision to stop doing the workshops there every 4 weeks. Luckily for me she was more than up for doing the workshop by video. I was thrilled for two reasons. One is that I always enjoyed teaching and working with her because her writing is lovely, despite her protestations that she doesn’t really write fiction – or hasn’t for many years. And the second reason was because if I was going to do my first ever video workshop it was comforting to know that I already knew the person and was used to working with them.
We arranged to connect a little earlier (we were using Facetime in this instance and I had never used it before) just to check all was working well, and then at 2pm we got down to work and worked for a solid 2 hours. It was brilliant. The time just flew by and we got through a lot of work!
This is definitely something I would like to do more of. Although I love to interact with people in a live environment (and will continue to do so with my Hanley workshops), the video platform is such a great way for people who don’t live locally to take part in my workshops. And if your problem is getting to workshops at particular times, then this is for you!
I found today that it was great to be able to devote all my attention to one client, giving a very personalised service and focussing on their needs without the worry of neglecting anyone else. With us both being in our own homes, it is very relaxing I discovered.
If you would like to take advantage of this service then please visit my video workshop page at the link below for all the details you need. You can choose the workshop you want from the list (which is not exhaustive and I will be adding more), or we can tailor make one to suit your needs. Dates and times can be arranged to suit us both and I am quite flexible. You can also submit something for me to read in advance of the workshop, and we can focus and work on that if you wish.
I hope to be welcoming more of you “into my home”. At the moment these sessions are one to one, but I am looking at ways of hosting group videos in the future. In the meantime, you are welcome to bring friends to the session and each extra person you bring pays only half price, which means that shared between you, you all get a bit of a discount.
